Siren's Song

"A mermaid found a swimming lad,
Picked him up for her own,
Pressed her body to his body,
Laughed; and plunging down
Forgot in cruel happiness
That even lovers drown."
-W.B. Yeats

My self-portrait consists of an implication of my current Photoshop abilities. I painted a gradient background to which I added layers of waves and colors. I found a stamp tool that allowed me to paint an oceanic floor as well as give bubbles to my undersea adventure. I took on the form as a siren for I have been known for my strong dolphin (or mermaid) kick which allows me to swim my favorite and strongest stroke, butterfly. In my hand you will find the Zora's Sapphire, an important artifact from the Legend of Zelda series, Ocarina of Time. This image encompasses my affinity for video games as well as water and if you listen closely, you can hear the sounds of drowning men.

  1. Great work here, Cassidy. Excited to delve deeper in a quick critique today. And dare I say, how about a butterfly race in the Columbia? :)

  2. Love it! Who doesn't want to be a mermaid for a day?
